Technical questions
TAMRON lenses communicate via the same interfaces as the original manufacturer lenses. There are no restrictions compared to the manufacturer lenses.
Full-frame sensors are larger than APS-C sensors and capture more light with the same number of megapixels. This ensures better image quality, especially in low light, and shallower depth of field (more background blur). APS-C is more compact and affordable—ideal for beginners or travel.
The name Di stands for a generation of lenses that have been specially developed for the requirements of digital SLR cameras. Di II lenses have been specially developed for digital SLR cameras with sensors up to a size of 16 x 24 mm (APS-C format). The optical systems are optimally matched to the characteristics of these cameras. At TAMRON, the name Di III stands for compact lenses that have been specially developed for mirrorless system cameras with exchangeable lenses. At TAMRON, the name Di III-A stands for compact lenses that have been specially developed for mirrorless system cameras with APS-C sensors.
A lens name contains many obscure abbreviations. These often refer to the motors, image stabilizers, and lens elements used. You can find all the explanations in our glossary
Some TAMRON lenses have a built-in image stabilizer. You can recognize these lenses by the letters VC in the product name. VC stands for Vibration Compensation.
The serial number of our lenses can be found on the top of the packaging, as well as either under the USB-C interface or on the bottom of the lens itself.
With TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile (TLU-M), photography and film enthusiasts can customize the configuration of the latest TAMRON lenses directly on location. In practice, this offers several advantages. All information and many tutorials can be found under the navigation point “TAMRON Lens Utility.” Please note that only TAMRON lenses for mirrorless system cameras are compatible with TLU. The app is currently only available for Android.
With the TAP-In Console from TAMRON, you can update your lens and customize settings. Please note that the TAP-In Console is only intended for TAMRON lenses for digital SLR cameras.
The Focus Set button on your TAMRON lens can be assigned to various camera functions. On some models, it can even be assigned multiple functions. Please take a look at our video on the TAMRON Lens Utility page. There you will also find many more tutorials.
Some models offer up to three different image stabilization modes:
VC Mode 1: Standard mode with balanced stabilization of the viewfinder image and the actual shot.
VC Mode 2: Specially designed for panning shots, ideal for dynamic sports and action photography.
VC Mode 3: Maximum image stabilization for razor-sharp shots without stabilization of the viewfinder image.
Unfortunately, TAMRON does not currently offer any teleconverters. We cannot guarantee the functionality of teleconverters from other manufacturers, as we have not tested them.
You can easily check your lens software yourself using the TAP-in Console or TLU software.
If you need assistance or have any questions, your local distributor will be happy to help.
You can update your lens software yourself using the TLU software or the TAP-In console. If you do not have these, you are welcome to send the lens to our service department and we will take care of the update for you. Please contact your local distributor for assistance.
Depth of field is a fixed, physically determined characteristic of a lens and cannot be changed or adjusted retrospectively.
It is determined by several factors: the focal length of the lens, the selected aperture, the distance to the subject, and the permissible circle of confusion depending on the image format.
Since these parameters are based on optical laws, the depth of field cannot be influenced or adjusted by the lens manufacturer.
In such cases, it is very likely that there is a so-called front or back focus when combining the camera and lens.
If your camera has already been checked and adjusted by the manufacturer, but the problem persists, we recommend sending the complete unit—i.e., camera and lens—to our service department. Our technicians can fine-tune the lens to your camera as far as possible.
Please note: No changes will be made to the third-party camera itself. It is only used to create a reference image during the adjustment process.
You are welcome to send your lens directly to our service department. You can find all the information you need about sending in your lens under “Repair Service”.
Since the image stabilizer attempts to compensate for movement, we recommend turning it off when using a tripod.
Please send an email to your local distributor with the exact model name and your serial number. If replacement parts are still available for your lens, we will be happy to send you a new rubber ring. Once you receive it, you can remove the old rubber ring and, with a little patience, slide the new one onto the lens.
Yes, in newer models, some elements are only positioned by a magnet when they come into contact with the camera, which is why noise may occur when they are removed.
Please direct any inquiries regarding replacement parts to your local distributor.
