Notice about the use of Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056) with Sony α7V

Thank you very much for your continued patronage of Tamron products.

Regarding our previous announcement on January 6, 2026, concerning the compatibility issue where the Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056) for Sony E-mount does not function correctly when used with the Sony α7V, we are pleased to inform you that a firmware update to resolve this phenomenon is now available.

We sincerely apologize for any significant inconvenience and concern this may have caused.

Phenomenon to be Resolved

When the lens is attached to the camera, “F--” will appear and the lens does not work properly.

About the Firmware Update

At this time, customers cannot perform the update themselves i.e. the lens has to be updated in a TAMRON service. To do so please contact your local TAMRON distributor

Please note that we are currently preparing a method for customers to perform future updates via their own camera bodies. However, due to the nature of this specific phenomenon where the lens is not recognized by the α7V, a camera body other than the α7V will likely be required for the update process, even once self-updates become available.
