The TAMRON G2 Trinity
The Advantages of an F/2.8 Lens Trio

The “F/2.8 Trio” consists of three professional-grade, fast zoom lenses that cover the full range from wide-angle to telephoto: the 16–30mm G2, the 28–75mm G2, and the 70–180mm G2. All three feature a large maximum aperture of F/2.8, which not only lets plenty of light hit the sensor but also produces beautifully soft, creamy bokeh. These lenses are designed specifically for Sony FE mirrorless cameras (with the 16–30mm G2 and 28–75mm G2 also available for Nikon Z). They combine professional image quality with a compact and lightweight build.
Prime or Zoom?
Many photographers love using prime lenses because they’re often even faster (e.g. F/1.4 or F/2) and produce especially pleasing bokeh. The downside: you have to move closer to or farther from your subject to adjust framing — which isn’t always possible, especially in tight spaces or hard-to-reach locations. That’s where zoom lenses shine, giving you flexibility and letting you reframe your shot on the fly.

Compact and Lightweight
Fast lenses tend to be bigger and heavier than standard lenses because of their construction. But the Tamron F/2.8 G2 trio strikes a great balance between brightness, optical quality, weight, and size.
Together, the three lenses weigh just around 1.8 kg, making them one of the most compact and versatile sets on the market.
Bright and Sharp Images
Thanks to their F/2.8 aperture, these lenses deliver excellent image quality even in low light. More light reaches the sensor, letting you capture sharp shots indoors, under cloudy skies, or at dusk. You can also use faster shutter speeds and still get bright, blur-free results.

Beautiful Bokeh
The lenses in the F/2.8 G2 series use state-of-the-art optical glass to minimize aberrations and unwanted flare while producing a silky, soft bokeh. This gives your subject more presence and creates a truly professional look.
Consistent Exposure – Even When Changing Lenses
Because all three lenses have the same maximum aperture of F/2.8, you don’t need to adjust your exposure significantly when switching between wide, standard, and telephoto. That saves time and helps keep your shots consistent.

What Can You Use Them For?
The F/2.8 Trio is ideal for high-quality photography in a wide range of situations — from portraits to landscapes.
Portraits
Portrait photography really benefits from the soft bokeh and large aperture of these lenses. Even in low light or shade, you can capture stunning portraits with beautifully blurred backgrounds.
Events
Indoor events, weddings, concerts — all benefit from fast lenses. You can work in low light and still capture sharp, well-lit images. Plus, being able to switch focal lengths quickly means you never miss a decisive moment.

Sports
In sports photography, you need fast shutter speeds to freeze motion. The F/2.8 Trio gives you the brightness you need to achieve that, even in darker gyms or arenas, without pushing ISO too high.

Wildlife
Like sports, wildlife often requires fast shutters. The weather-sealed, water-repellent G2 lenses give you the light and image quality you need — even in bad weather or fading light.

Landscapes
These lenses also shine for landscapes, delivering crisp detail and depth even in challenging weather. Thanks to their resolution and contrast, you can capture every detail of the scene, even under overcast skies.
What to Consider When Choosing a Fast Lens
Many people shopping for a fast lens focus on image quality — but there are other important factors, too:

Portability and Handling
Fast lenses are often bigger and heavier than standard ones. The Tamron G2 series is designed to stay as portable as possible — ideal for travel and long shoots. A lightweight, easy-to-handle lens means you’re more likely to capture the perfect moment.

Minimum Focusing Distance
The minimum focusing distance determines how close you can get to your subject and still focus. A short distance makes it easier to take creative close-ups. For example, the Tamron 28–75mm G2 can focus as close as 18 cm, giving you more creative options.
Autofocus Performance
need reliable autofocus. The Tamron VXD linear motor delivers lightning-fast, precise, and silent AF — perfect for quiet settings like ceremonies as well as action scenes.
