Expand your creativity with Generation 2
World's smallest and lightest with fast F2.8 aperture and amazing performance
The 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (model A065) is the second generation "G2" successor to the highly acclaimed A056. The new model retains its fast F2.8 aperture and 180mm telephoto, while achieving the world's smallest size and lightest weight in its class. The optical design has been completely reworked to maintain the highest level of mobility. The precision combination of special glass, including XLD and LD lens elements, delivers uncompromising optical performance throughout the zoom range. With the 70-180mm F2.8 G2, TAMRON has pushed rendering performance and miniaturization to the limit - advances that enhance the pleasure of capturing the world around you.
Features and Functions
Fast and precise AF and improved tracking performance plus VC mechanism
The AF drive continues to use the VXD4 linear motor focusing mechanism, which combines class-leading speed and precision for fast and accurate focusing. The precise calculations used to update the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (A067) and 150-500mm F5-6.7 (A057) have been reworked to improve tracking of moving subjects, ensuring you never miss the action, whether shooting stills or video. In addition, the 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is equipped with TAMRON's VC5 mechanism. This suppresses camera shake, which tends to occur when shooting at the telephoto end, during close focusing or in low-light conditions, for sharper results.
MOD of 0.3m opens up new possibilities
Shooting at close distances, which was only possible with manual focusing with the 1st generation model, is now possible with autofocus with the 70-180mm F2.8 G2. TAMRON has succeeded in reducing the MOD to 0.3m at 70mm. At 70mm, the working distance is 12cm and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.6. This expands the possibilities for expression with a single lens.
