  • The smallest and lightest AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 is presented (Model 71D).

1993

The AF 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 receives the European lens of the year 93/94 award and the Best of What’s New award from the American Popular Science magazine.

1995

  • Tamron takes over 75% of BRONICA Co., Ltd.
  • The AF 200-400mm F5.6 LD receives the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) Best Lens in Europe Award and the Best of What’s New award from the American Popular Science magazine.
  • ISO9002 certification of Hirosaki facilities.

1996

The 2nd generation of the AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 Super(Model 171D), with improved minimum focusing distance is presented and receives the Best of What’s New award from the American Popular Science magazine.

1997

  • AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 Super receives the Grand Prix of CAPI Magazine, Japan, award.
  • AF 90mm F2.8 1:1 Macro receives the European lens of the year award 1997/1998.
  • SP AF 28-105mm LD F2.8 Aspherical receives the Best of What’s New award from the American Popular Science magazine.
  • Tamron Industries (Hong Kong) Ltd. is founded.
  • Tamron Optical Co. Ltd. in Foshan, Quang Dong, Peoples Republic of China is founded.

1998

  • The AF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 (Model 185D) is presented at Photokina.
  • One million units sold mark reached for Tamron 28-200mm.

1999

The AF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 receives the following awards: EISA Photo Award "Lens of the Year" 1999-2000; TIPA Awards Best Lens in Europe 1999/2000 Best of What’s New Award Popular Science, USA, Camera Grand Prix 1999 Special Prize, Japan
