Pan-American Highway Road Trip

27.05.2014

Yes! Let's just pack our things and go. One month, 6 months, a year? Everyone's had thoughts like this at one time or another and nobody can say that Germans don't know how to travel. It's with good reason that we are not only known as the "World Champions of Hearts" (because of the World Cup in 2006) but we are also the world champions when it comes to travelling.

Perfect exposure with a graduated filter

13.05.2014

Rocky, steep and fairly strenuous – we worked up quite a sweat on the climb up to the Teufelsloch (Devil's hole) near Altenahr. And of course we couldn't leave home without all of our photography equipment. Alongside a single-lens reflex camera and the high speed Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD, we also had a graduated filter in our rucksack on this trip. The graduated filter allows you to reduce high contrasts between the sky and landscape. Ideal for taking photographs on sunny days when the dynamic range of the camera is not sufficient to capture details in highlights and shadows with one single exposure.

Wood Anemones in the Sun

25.04.2014

Even without a macro lens, it is entirely possible to take great pictures of flowers. We realised this one day when we discovered several wood anemones by the golden light of the afternoon sun. The Anemone nemorosa doesn't normally bloom until April, but the mild winter has given us an early floral start this year.

App-Tip: Sun Surveyor for best light

18.02.2014

Nature- and architecture photographers know how important light is for magnificent shots. If the sun is high in the sky, the contrasts are too hard and the light is too flat. Ideal times however are dusk and dawn. Depending on the point of time, the light then is soft or warm, emphasizing the structures and shaping the motive details.
